A lot of hope around the globe that must be felt by almost everybody - this is what this haiku provoked in me upon reading it.

What about his civic duty as a citizen?

Marvelous thing to think about, Dave. I did not feel hope from it, but it gave me pause, and that is more than enough for me.

Good one. Yes engaged for sure; the problems he has on his plate(s).

Hope this comment sticks, Dave. Your comment moderator doesn't like me at all lately.

Dear Dave, this haiku, if I understand it well, with its "declining jury service" reminds of our Italian Prime Minister, what I consider our almost now twenty year old National Shame and Disgrace, who "declines his own trials' attendance" being always "otherwise elsewhere engaged". My embezzled fellow Italian citizens elected him many times fulfilling just this primary purpose of his, being legitimately!! elsewhere engaged not to be brought to justice!
A political Italian nightmare.
But this is not at all Obama's case, isn't it? The two leaders are miles away ( in every sense!!) from each other, thank God.

I'd say " otherwise engaged elsewhere".

Very clever, I love your haiku. All of them. I've only just learned that there is no plural s.

Oh, I do so wish I were as clever as you and some others. I am okay with words in English, but I'm finding poetry very hard going. How do I learn?

Hi Dave,

Couldn't afford to be seen as a soft touch or hard-hearted. On the other hand, he might be busy!

Wonderful Dave ~~ perfect!

Thought provoking if not uplifting. I like Friko's comments and she is such a good writer.

Witty one, Dave.

I was just wondering how I would feel if I walked into my trial and the Pres. was sitting in the jury box.

Everyday Goddess said...

Wouldn't it have been funny if he had been called to sit on the jury hearing evidence against the Bush administration?

Karen said...

I think he might just be doing his civic duty elsewhere!

Perfect!

Wonder how many times he served on a jury prior to his presidency?
Sometimes the lawyers don't want a lawyer in the box anyway. He's reading plenty of verdicts, just in a hung crowd.

Because he was called? Or because he declined?

JeanetteLS
He was called by the Chicago court. I think he felt that he doesn't live there any more.

Thanks - sorry about the moderator. I am having rather a job lot of problems at the present time.

Tommaso
Yes, I think you have stated both situations accurately. The similarity is only superficial.

Friko
I think you are doing very well. I am not the person to ask. I n ever was clver enough to learn another language.

Derrick
Let's agree he's busy!

Helen
Too kind!

Tabor
Agreed - on both counts.

willow
Many thanks

Ronda
Strange thing: that thought occurred to me only momen ts ago - it hadn't occurred before - obviously, you are a day or so quicker on the uptake than I am.

Everyday Goddess
Now, that would have been worth writing about!

Karen
Yup, give him the benefit of the doubt - if there is any!

Cloudia
As is the comment!

Dianne
Quite. I think there might well have been an objection.

Dave, not because of him but because of the people expectations. I know it's weird but that's what it had provoked in me.
