Block!

Brilliant as ever
away in midfield,
but frozen when
six yards from goal.

In writers' terms
they're suffering from
a form of strikers' block.

This is my contribution for today to Writers Island's NATIONAL POETRY's Free Writing Month.

Clever imagery!

If you're talking Premiership footballers, I bet they won't have much trouble writing cheques.

Lucky we had Yaya Toure playing for us then!
Couldn't think of anything else to write...:)
It can happen!

I'm not much into sporting language, Dave, but I like the idea of 'striker's block'

My team, the Minnesota Twins, seems to be suffering from "batters' block". Wonder what the cure is for that?

Even a non sprty type like me gets the humour in this one! :)

Must have been what happened to Bolton Wanderers on Saturday at Wembley. We have a Bolton supporter for a friend and nobody dares to mention it yet!

Clever poem, Dave, though I am no sport fan, I get the gist:)

Absolutely fantastic Dave. A block and shock of a poem of the kind that makes laugh and roar with a tiger's insight. And with a deep metaphor that can expand forever. Or make one suspend one's breath forever.

Strikers block is real, look at Torres sitting on the bench! Maybe you could do some 'How to get over Strikers Block' words for those in need. This could be the next big thing!

Dave, I have no idea what a "striker" is (is that Cricket?), but this poem made me laugh anyway. Funny, you're so good - even when one doesn't get the pun, the smile still comes...! Amy

Andy
I was taling premiership, and I agre: they will not have much trouble!

imnotaverse
Thanks.

Shadow
Thanks for the comment.

Isabel
Which is what turns it into a vicious circle, I suppose.

Stan
It can and it does!

Elisabeth
Yes, I thought it made the idea of writers' block just a little less unique.

Pearl
Now that's a new one on me. You'll need to ask a sports psychologist.

Gloria
Many thanks.

Jinksy
Non sporty? Who be you kidding?

Weaver of Grass
I can imagine. You'll need to treat him gently, they're very sensitive you know, football fans - especially Bolton supporters.

Pamela
Thanks Pamela.

Tommaso
Wow, thanks for that. I just love love metaphors that can expand for ever!

I will give it my earnest consideration, but I somehow feel that if anyone could there'd be a fortune in it for them - which makes it seem a little unlikely.

Sorry, should have foreseen that not everyone is pin-brained enough to know the ins and outs of football. A striker is the one who scores the goals - or should do!
